If you've been grinding Diamond Dynasty long enough, you already know how annoying it gets when a lineup looks fine on paper but keeps dying against right-handed pitching. That's where Munetaka Murakami starts making sense. His Topps Now version gives you real middle-order thunder, and if you're trying to stretch your MLB 26 stubs without wasting them on a flashy name that doesn't play well, he's one of the easier cards to justify. He doesn't need much setup. You get him in the box, you look for a pitch you can lift, and the card does the rest more often than not.
Why Murakami fits the current pace
The thing I like most is that Murakami doesn't ask you to change your whole approach. A lot of power bats in MLB The Show 26 only feel good if you're already locked in and sitting on the right pitch. He's a little more forgiving than that. In my experience, his swing path makes mistimed contact feel less dead than you'd expect, which matters when the game is already throwing enough RNG at you through bad PCI placement, pitch tunneling, and all the usual online nonsense. He's comfortable in the three, four, or five spot, and that matters because you don't want a guy like this wasting early plate appearances at the top of the order.
What players get wrong about him
The biggest mistake I see is people treating him like a pure pull hitter who only exists to mash no-doubt bombs. That's not really the point. If you sell out for inside heat every pitch, you'll start chasing a bunch of junk away from the zone and the card feels worse than it is. He plays better when you stay patient and let mistakes come to you. That's also why he works so well in Ranked Seasons, where most pitchers will eventually miss with something. He doesn't need a perfect matchup. He just needs one bad location, and that's enough to turn a clean inning into a mess for the other guy.
Getting him and using the extra value
Unlocking Murakami through Topps Now content makes him a lot more accessible than the usual late-game chase cards, and that changes how you should think about him. If you can earn him through the program, do that before you even touch the market. If not, the market route is fine, but only when the price stops climbing after a fresh content drop. I've seen plenty of players buy too early because they get impatient, then watch the card settle later. His secondary third base spot is useful too, especially when your roster starts getting crowded and you need to slide bats around without ruining the rest of the build. At 1B, he's simple. At 3B, he's a bit more of a tradeoff, but the bat usually covers for it.
What I wish I knew sooner
Don't force Power Swing with him just because the card has big power numbers. That's a common trap, and it usually turns into lazy fly balls or ugly strikeouts. Normal swings are plenty. Also, the card gets better as you parallel it, which is easy to forget when you're staring at the base version and wondering if he's really worth the slot. He is, especially for casual players who want production without constant lineup tinkering, and for harder grinders who care about squeezing every RBI out of the middle of the order. If you've got the stubs and you're tired of paying extra for cards that only look good in menu screens, buy MLB The Show 26 Stubs and put them into a bat that actually changes games.
